Bathing places

As soon as the sun is shining and the temperatures a very high, most people prefer to stay at the lake and have a swim. At lake Schliersee you will find several bathing areas for you and even for your dog.

Near the so called „Erlebnispfad” (= adventure trail) on the western bank of lake Schliersee is a nice place to stay for a while. You can only get there by foot. If you are travelling by car, please park your vehicle in Fischhausen. After a walk of approximately 20 minutes, you will arrive at the bathing place.
It is also possible to park at the northern side of lake Schliersee. From here it will take you about 40 minutes to get there.

On the southern bank of lake Schliersee are to more bathing places and a few boat huts. The sunbathing area near the lido is free of charge and you will find some parking sites nearby in Fischhausen.

Please keep in mind, that the so called  „Parkstrandbad Schliersee” is very popular and many people come here during summer and also park here. The only way to save some time looking for a car park, is to leave your car at home or at the hotel and hop onto the bus or travel to lake Schliersee by train.

Another nice place to stay is lake Spitzingsee. The bathing area is on the eastern bank of the lake, next to the Arabella Alpenhotel. Lake Spitzingsee is at a height of 1.000 metres and the water is much cooler than the water of lake Schliersee. Dog owners also can come here and let their pets jump into the water.

Diving

You do not have to travel to the ocean in order to for practising your favourite sport. Lake Schliersee offers divers many places, where they can have a great time under water.

Before entering the water, please take a look at the general  diving map for the lake. Some areas are wildlife sanctuaries for water birds. It is prohibited to disturb the birds during molt and accordingly during their stay for the winter. These zones are hatched in the general map. From September to March it is not allowed to dive there. You will also find areas inside the map, showing you, where scuba diving is forbidden the whole year.

Please also notice the rules and limitations of the general decree of the District Office of Miesbach for diving with respiratory protective devices in lake Schliersee and Spitzingsee (releasing date: 03. June 2004 - file number 51/641-Schliersee-7).

Here you will find a short summary of the most important facts of the general decree:

While diving in the water, please ensure not to disturb the bathing activities. From March, 15th to October 31st, diving is prohibited in the whole swimming area.

It is also not allowed to change the surface of the lake bed or to attach orientation-tools in the ground.

Discovery of archaeological remains as well as the finding place must immediately be reported to the Bavarian State Office for historic preservation. Please do not change the place of recovery and do not take any finds with you.

Secured objects must be handed over to the Bavarian State Office for historic preservation.

Organised dives in the iced up lake are only allowed, if the lake is not completely iced and naturally formed entrances available.

During a dive in winter the fish may not be disturbed in their winter rest.

It is prohibited to enter the water at the reed bed zone and also where the water plants and reed grows.

This limitation also applies in spawning grounds, in areas where little streams run in, near net and fish traps, anchors, markings and fish shelters.

Divers with diving equipment must keep an additional buffer distance of 100 metres from fishing nets, fish traps, landing stages, hydraulic engineering projects, the bank and the waterways of the liner trades of lake Schliersee.

Sailing

Lake Schliersee is a wonderful place to hang around and to enjoy the view to the Bavarian Alps. It also provides very good conditions for sailing. More than 40 years the long-distance regatta „Blaues Band Schliersee“ takes place here. This is where professional sailors meet. The regatta is organised by the sailing club called „Schlierseer Segelclub e.V.”

The sailing school at lake Schliersee offers various courses for adults and children during May to September. You can book a beginners course or deepen your skills during an advanced training course. All sailing teachers are well experienced and highly qualified. Adults attending the basic sailing course will learn about the most important fundamental, practical and theoretical terms. The basic course for teens between 8 and 12 years is 12 hours long and takes place from Monday to Friday.

The taster course takes about half a day. Your whole family can take part during July and August. But you also can book a private course and make an appointment any time you like with your „Personal-Trainer”.

During the practical training, which takes about three hours and only takes place on the weekends during July and August. All attendants learn different sail manoeuvres with the help of various sails on modern yachts and keel yachts.

The course for regatta sailors takes about 12 hours. The participants are trained in theory and practise sail-tactical methods, learn spinnaker manoeuvres and stowing the boat. In order to be admitted to this course, you must have very good sailing knowledge. During the lessons the DSV licensed sailing teachers and professional exercise leaders respond to the individual requirements of their sailing students. All beginners and advanced sailors can also deepen their knowledges during cruising and regatta sailing. Further information and registration for the courses under www.segelschule-am-schliersee.de.

Angling and fishing

Angler and fishermen have a very special relationship with nature. As soon as they  dip their fishing line  or net into the water, they pause and look at the natural surroundings. Fish only can be caught during absolute silence. Also, other animals appear during these special moments of silence. As soon as they hear human activities, they hide in the bushes or behind trees.

The region of Schliersee is a wonderful spot for skippers, fly and spin fisher. Lots of fish live in the lakes Schliersee and Spitzingsee, e.g. eel, pike, whitefish, scale carp, lake trout, tench, samlet and zander.

Fishing season starts on May, 1st and ends on September, 30th. At lake Spitzingsee angler can even catch some fish until November, 15th, if the lake is not completely iced up.

Milchhäusl

Next to the „Vitalwelt“ and the spa gardens in Schliersee lies the so called „Milchhäusl“. It has been built in 1923 by the grandfather of the current owner of the Café, Markus Sachs. It was a little hut, in the middle of a swamp area. A small beaten track led to the shack and only card players came here, in order to have a good time.

1937, after the swamp has been dried out, the hut was converted to a Café. After a few years, the daughter of the„Milchhäusl“- founder took over the business and since 2000Markus Sachs welcomes all visitors to one of the prettiest places at the riverside of lake Schliersee.

By the way, the „Milchhäusl“ has been used many times as scenery for TV- and cinematic-productions. Some scenes of German series e.g  "Ein Bayer auf Rügen" or "Zwei Köche am Herd" have been filmed  here.

The small family-run Café is a peaceful place. Here you can enjoy a typical Bavarian „Weißwurstfrühstück“ (a hearty breakfast consisting of the typical Bavarian veal sausage), sweet cooked desserts, e.g.  „Strudel, Dampfnudeln, Kaiserschmarrn” and more. At lunchtime salads and regional specialities like „Bauerngröstl, Kasspatz´n”  and snacks are being served.

Depending on the weather, the „Milchhäusl“ is opened from Monday to Sunday from 10.30 a.m. to 6 p.m. Warm food is served during 11.30 a.m. to 2 p.m.  You can park your car right in front of the building. If you want to walk to the „Milchhäusl“, the railway station is nearby. It will take you only a few minutes to walk here.

By the way, at the „Milchhäusl“ you can also rent rowing boats, paddle boats, electric motor boats and sailing boats. If you want to book a boat trip around the lake Schliersee, how about booking a trip with the electric boat „Lisi“. Just contact Markus Sachs and his team for more information.

Running and Walking

The region of Schliersee is perfect for all kinds of sports. Especially those, who love to run and walk, will find lots of nice paths. You even can do some Nordic Walking or Nordic Blading. There are easy, moderate and very challenging routes for beginners and experienced runners.

Jogger and runners do not only burn lots of calories and body-fat during their training, they also increase their efficiency of their body. Absolute beginners should always start slowly and take care of their pulse rate. Regular breathing is also very important, or otherwise you will have side stitches. Never start a tour without proper running shoes. Always make sure, that they fit right and do not squeeze your toes. They also should stabilise your ankles and protect your knee joints and ankles while running around.

Nordic Walkers use some Walking sticks. They almost look like cross-country skiing sticks. During the exercise, you have to combine the  movement of your arms and legs. This way, more than 55% body fat can be burnt and 90% of your muscles are being trained at the same time. The right footwear is also very important.

Nordic Balding is a combination of Nordic Walking and Rollerblading with sticks. Many cross-country skier train this way during summer. By moving with the so called skating-technique, they seem to slide on the running track. This kind of sport is an effective whole-body workout. During your training you also mobilise your muscles, joints and bloodstream.

If you would like to learn Nordic Walking or Nordic Blading, please visit the homepage www.ausbildungszentrum-bayern.de. Gerd Müller at the DSV nordic aktiv Ausbildungszentrum Alpenregion Tegernsee Schliersee will show you everything you have to know about Nordic Walking or Nordic Blading in one of his courses.
